Alsace

Alsace

The picturesque region of Alsace tucked into the north-eastern corner of France along the German border, protected by the Vosges Mountains. A long thin region, it is characterised by its vast array of soil types and diverse range of grape varieties. Limestone, schist, granite, gneiss, sandstone, the list goes on! Each plot of land brings a new character and expression to the wine, so it is no surprise that in Alsace you’ll find many vignerons vehemently committed to terroir expression. Of course, you’ll find racy Rieslings and heady Gewürztraminer’s here, but we’re always keeping our eyes peeled for wines which push classic stylistic boundaries; field blends, macerated whites or wines which use the regions unsung heroes- Auxerrois and Sylvaner. The aromatic grape varieties in Alsace respond amazingly well to skin-contact, the resulting wines are some of the most characterful and expressive out there. From clean and precise to wild, textured and surprising, Alsatian wines always capture the essence of the region and never fail to excite.
