Old vine Cabernet Franc from Vine Vale, fermented in whole bunches. Plush, herbaceous and with that saline, pickle-y sort of twang to it. A very Aussie riff on Central Loire reds. Find out more.

We love Gamay here at Wayward, but it's fair to say that Australia is not the first place we look for it. Known for his incongruous plantings of Italian and French varietals one doesn't always find in these parts, this particular example has a lovely green, herbaceous quality and has that stony, granitic quality one hopes for in good Beaujolais. The 2020 vintage showed a real change of direction for the Lucy M. wines and this Pinot Noir particularly sidesteps the wildness in favour of some real elegance. Pressed very lightly, it shows some delicate, savoury qualities, along with some piercing, herbaceous berry fruits. Find out more.

Tom's more rustic, structured Syrah - a nice counter to the airy 'Poolside'. That lighter wine does play its part here, the whole bunches of old vine grapes are submerged in its fermenting juice, providing a balance of what he describes as 'youth and wisdom'. An abundance of umami flavours at play here underneath all the fruit. Find out more.

Say the grape varietal Poulsard in an Australian accent and you'll perhaps see where Tom is coming from with the name of this wine. It's Syrah in that pale, delicate style of a Jura red. It would also make a fine poolside companion, particularly in this handsome large format. Find out more.

Crazy-underrated Margaret River producer who is making distinctive and delicious wine, resulting from some very thoughtful, irrigation-free vineyard work. Something often hard to avoid in this region. In the absence of any barrel time, a real bomb of herbal blackcurrant fruits explode in the glass. So tasty. Find out more.

Highly unconventional Margaret River stylings here with this descriptively-named red and white mix of Sauvignon Blanc with Shiraz. In light, chillable red territory, here the red coulis fruits are elevated with herbaceous vim. Incomparable and all the better for it - if it tastes this good, why not? Find out more.

A wine that serves as something of a snapshot of the 2020 vintage, topping up a blend of Pinot Noir and Merlot with a little of all Anton's other reds. As usual the wine is the antithesis of the sometimes jammy, overripe Aussie style. Savoury and bright, this wine has lots of edge. Find out more.
