About the Wine
Riesling Sur Grès is Yann’s electric-charged, bouncing-ball of Riesling. Lively, zippy and incredibly fresh with lots of pithy citrus, precise acidity and soft chalky texture.
Made with 100% Riesling grown on sandstone soils, this is the easiest drinking of Yann’s cuvées. The grapes hand-harvested and direct-pressed into stainless steel where fermentation takes place, preserving the wines fresh green fruit qualities. Sur grès is typically a little less floral than Yann’s other cuvées, the focus instead being on zest and fruit all wound up with a tight coil of acidity. Hazy and thirst-quenching, this is a bottle just begging to be opened in the sunshine.
About Domaine Durrmann
The Durrmann family had made wine for generations as small farmers. Grandad had moved away from farming to become a shoemaker but still kept a few vines on the side. André decided to move back to farming in 1979 and pieced the domaine together from abandoned vineyard sites that were hard to work and no longer commercially viable. Son Yann has worked in the domaine since he was a child and officially took over the business a year ago. André was among the first wave of organic winemakers in Alsace, converting in 1998. Yann has taken this a step further applying a more natural approach in the cellar.
