The Gamay-formerly-known-as-Enculés, now more innocuously illustrated with some cute fluffy rabbits and informally dubbed 'bunny wine' (of course there is no name on the label, this is Raphaël & Émélie after all).
This is 100% Gamay from vines planted in 1955 in Theize, 25 minutes north of their winery towards Macon. They took it over in 2017 and have converted it to organic, this is the third vintage on this parcel. The soils are rich in clay, limestone and the golden stones named 'pierres dorées' that this part of Beaujolais is known for. Two weeks of maceration whole bunch then aging in a huge old barrel.
Cut from a similar cloth to Les Paltieres, with the same sort of diamond-in-the-rough character, Bunny Wine expresses a different terroir and packs a little more of a punch.
