Beautifully elegant Barolo from vines in Serralunga d'Alba planted amongst the rolling hills of Langhe, all of which are farmed biodynamically. As a result, we find the wines to have a bit more energy, with a juicier, more approachable character than the pervading style. A wonderfully complex Barolo with violets, red berries, sweet spices and leather jumping from the glass. The elegance on the nose is followed by silky yet firm tannins on the palate and a powerful, long finish.
Serralunga is the entry-point, coming from the youngest vines on the estate. As per the rules of Barolo, the wine ages in barrel for two years, and close to a year in the bottle before release, to stoften the often dialled-up tannic structure of the Nebbiolo. It's one of the best known wines to come out of Italy and we feel that this is a suitably 'Wayward' example.
In the prized vineyards of the Barolo DOCG it is rare to find producers that are making wine without the addition of at least a small amount of suphur in the cellar - Principiano Ferdinando have eschewed it since the early 2000s. The vines, in Serralunga d'Alba, amongst the rolling hills of Langhe, are all farmed biodynamically. As a result, we find the wines to have a bit more energy, and to have a juicier character than the pervading style.
