A rosado made from the white grape Macabeu? Si, si! The truth is that the skins from a pressing of Garnacha and Syrah have found their way into the tank and, a little bit like swishing a paintbrush around in water, their red pigment has seeped into the wine in the most delicate way. A trademark of the white wines of Penedès is their sea breeze-salinity and a spicy note of cracked white peppercorn - both are to be found here but with a blush of red fruits in the mix too. Jordi Llorens is one of the exciting new wave of Catalan producers we discovered through heady nights spent at the wine bars of Barcelona. He took over the reins of his family estate in the Conca de Barberà, a high altitude region to the west of the city, in 2008 and has been making notable wine using a host of both local and international varietals since.
