The grapes come from some of Benoît’s younger vines, though still 40 plus years old. Pressed direct and aged in barrel, this wine shows lovely texture and plenty of ripe, pure fruit and bright citrus. Find out more.
A delicious rosé of Gamay. The second time round for this cuvée from Benoit, who decided the grapes weren’t quite right for maceration so instead decided to direct-press the grapes to make a rosé. The juice was then fermented and aged in tank. A vibrant wine with generous amounts of delicious pink fruit.
The wines of Domaine de la Côtelette are incredibly pure and precise. Needless to say, the production is tiny, with very little to go around. Drinking well now, though it would be an interesting one to cellar.
Benoît Killian is the man behind Domaine de la Côtelette. A musician, wine-seller and more recently vigneron. His love for natural wine came from a chance meeting in 2007 with Marcel Lapierre. Five years passed where Benoît visited and sold wines from many producers and in 2012 was offered the opportunity to buy vines in the Côte de Saône, from his friend Guy Bussière. However, the timing wasn’t quite right. With Benoît having other commitments, he passed up the offer and believed that was the end of the story. Skip to 2018, Benoît drove past the vines, only to see they had been neglected and were up for sale again. Now was the time! He knew the potential of these vineyards which had never had any chemicals treatments. With lots of hard work the 2.5 hectares of vines were restored.
