Another interesting new producer hailing from the burgeoning UK low-intervention scene, Traverse is a tiny side-gig sort of operation put together by a group of friends who are sourcing the grapes from East Sussex and making the wine in the cellar at Tillingham.
Traverse Red is a field blend of Phoenix and Rondo grapes from a single vineyard in Beckley. After a short maceration the wine was left to age in old Burgundy barrels for 9 months. At just 9 degrees of alcohol, this is bright, light-bodied and with some fresh, underripe fruit flavours that reflect the cooler climate of our home soils. The wine is bottled before it completes its malolactic fermentation, meaning a small dose of co2 is trapped in the bottle, creating a refreshing spritz.
Shout out to our old friend Jonty on this one!
