The classic Sicilian red grape Nero d'Avola, here in wonderfully expressive form and with an invitingly accessible price-tag. The grapes are grown in the hilly Alcamo region in Sicily, on South-facing vines at 300m above sea-level. T
he area blessed with a sun-drenched Mediterranean climate, meaning working the vines without the use of chemicals is the most logical thing to do. Unlike other overdone Nero d'Avola's from the area, this wine sees no oak. Instead, the use of stainless steel vessels is used to let the grapes speak for themselves. The hot climate ensures fullness and depth in the wine, while the inert vessel preserves the freshness of the fruit.
The nose is filled with cherries, currants, chocolate and plum. On the palate the wine is round and full with elegant tannins. There’s a freshness here from a good line of acidity which, balanced with an underlying richness and intensity. Great value ‘vino de tavola’ to enjoy with your next rustic meal.
