Electrically-charged Chenin Blanc offering thirst-quenching notes of pith, sea salt and stoney minerality – one that is sure to make a compelling apéritif alongside your next plate of oysters. Made with Chenin Blanc from young vines planted over clay, limestone and silex in Jasnières. The grapes were pressed directly to cuve, where the wine rested for eight months before being bottled young and brimming with energy. Pure Chenin which balances complexity and ease. Delicious, invigorating stuff from Thierry Hensault - a tiny-production Loire vigneron making wine as they did in yesteryear!
Originally from Touraine, Thierry comes from a family of growers and grew up among the vines. He travelled the world spending time in vineyards before returning to the Loire and working alongside the likes of Eric Nicolas and Jean-Pierre Robinot. He spent several years acquiring tiny parcels of the oldest vines he could find and in 2009 began making wine.
Thierry now farms just two and a half hectares of old vines spread out in tiny parcels across the Sarthe and further afield in Touraine. He farms with the utmost respect for nature and keeps treatments to an absolute minimum- using intuition and a deft hand to make beautiful wines that channel the energy of these remarkable old vines..
The cellar is set in a small cave, which provides the perfect conditions for élevage. Amazingly, he still makes wine without the aid of running water or electricity- this is wine made as it would have been in yesteryear. These are wines of incredible purity, wines that will reward patient drinkers for years to come.
