Bouju's much-loved sparkling rosé is back with a bang (a pop?) with the new 2023 vintage. A wine that is always lots of fun and has brought much pleasure over the years. A blend of Gamay d'Auvergne (relative to the better-known Beaujolais Gamay, but with smaller berries and thicker skins) and Pinot Noir. Deep in colour, with delicate bubbles, the 2023 is more dry than previous vintages, and shows off the lovely fresh fruit and bloody complexity of the grape varieties.
This year Bouju’s iconic fizz was made with grapes from new vines they have begun working on the Plateau of Gergovie, on basalt soils. Half the grapes are pressed directly, the rest are macerated in whole bunches. As always, this is a real party-starting fizz, perfect for the festive season - or any season for that matter!
Patrick started making wine in 2004 with 1.5 hectares of vines which has now increased to around 5 hectares. The soil in Patrick's vineyards is heavily basaltic thanks to the chain of extinct volcanoes, the Puy de Dôme at its heart, which form the backbone of the region. Patrick's vineyards are mainly planted with old Gamay d'Auvergne (a smaller berried, thicker skinned variety than its Beaujolais cousin), a little Chardonnay and some Pinot Noir.
