About the Wine
The 2024 ‘Lucky You!’ is here, Laurent’s most iconic cuvée. 2024 was a very difficult vintage, wet and with a lot of mildew so they had to be very picky with the fruit when harvesting. Though quite a lot of fruit was lost, fortunately the fruit they did get was of excellent quality and this comes through in the wine. Balanced and fresh, with very pure fruit. Not much to go around this year!
Made using fruit from Laurent's Clos Roche Blanche estate, Lucky You is a blend of around 2/3 Sauvignon blanc with 1/3 Chardonnay, pressed directly and aged in steel. The two grapes work together effortlessly, the Sauvignon Blanc bringing beautiful bright fruits while the Chardonnay adds minerality and soft creamy texture.
This cooler vintage has brought a bright acidity which balances the tropical fruit wonderfully. As usual, the wine is vibrant, punchy and immediate - and will keep long-time followers more than happy. A real classic.
About Laurent Saillard
Laurent spent a lot of time in New York earlier in his life, managing at Balthazar and starting one of the first natural wine bars in New York, Ici. Eventually he decided to try his hand at producing the wines he had fallen in love with and moved to the Loire valley working with other producers like Noella Morantin, making his own wines on the side and eventually purchasing half of the historic and beautiful Clos Roche Blanche vineyard, farmed organically beforehand by Catherine & Didier Barouillet who still live in the house on site. Through this time he has retained a presence in New York through his wines, even doing an exclusive cuvee for ex-Balthazar head chefs Riad Nasr & Lee Hanson's new spot Frenchette. Fortunately he did save some wine for the UK and we have a few different bottles from his 2018 vintage.
