This cooler vintage has brought a bright acidity which balances the tropical fruit wonderfully. As usual, vibrant, punchy and immediate. A real classic. Find out more.
Ça Se Discute, a prime red chiller arriving just in time for the sunshine. Made using two different varieties of Pineau d'Aunis, regular Aunis and Aunis Tenturier, bought in from outside of Laurent's Clos Roche Blanche domaine. The grapes here coming from Domaine de Cambalu in neigbouring Francueil- just 15 minutes from Laurent.
For the 2024 iteration of this cuvée Laurent de-stemmed the fruit as usual and aged in fibreglass tank keep the fruit impeccably fresh. The wine is vibrant and bright and feels featherweight on the palate, clocking in at just 10.5%. Alongside beautiful aromatics you’ll find plenty of little red fruits intertwined with just a hint of those cracked white peppercorn notes we love from this varietal.
Laurent spent a lot of time in New York earlier in his life, managing at Balthazar and starting one of the first natural wine bars in New York, Ici. Eventually he decided to try his hand at producing the wines he had fallen in love with and moved to the Loire valley working with other producers like Noella Morantin, making his own wines on the side and eventually purchasing half of the historic and beautiful Clos Roche Blanche vineyard, farmed organically beforehand by Catherine & Didier Barouillet who still live in the house on site. Through this time he has retained a presence in New York through his wines, even doing an exclusive cuvee for ex-Balthazar head chefs Riad Nasr & Lee Hanson's new spot Frenchette. Fortunately he did save some wine for the UK and we have a few different bottles from his 2018 vintage.
