A salty, nutty and resolutely savoury natural wine which pours a beautiful shade of gold in the glass. On the nose, a harmonious blend of dried herbs, spice and citrus jump from the glass. On the palate, the wine feels soft and rounded, with a welcome streak of minerality and lemony citrus on the finish.
Made with a blend of Verdicchio and Trebbiano from vines young and old planted over clay and limestone. The grapes were pressed directly to concrete until the following spring.
Bianco Ventitré is one of only two wines that La Distesa released from the difficult 2023 growing season. A season characterised by excessive rain which resulted in widespread fungal disease, effecting much of the region.
Unfortunately, Corrado lost 80% of his grapes, so he picked what he could and harvested with neighbours who farm organically in the region. ‘Ventitré’, the survivor wine, was made with the grapes that made it through this difficult vintage.
Corrado Dottori's family has tended vines in San Michele near the town of Cupramontana in the Marche for three generations. The rolling hills at around 320 metres above sea level, constant sunshine, firm clay-limestone soils and that all important fluctuation between temperatures day and night found here provide the perfect conditions for the growing of the Verdicchio grape. Biodiversity is both championed and cherished, you'll find fava beans, peas, alfalfa, wild mint and more in between the rows of vines, providing diverse surroundings in which the vines thrive and also the raw materials for the biodynamic preparations used. Vineyard work is fantastic, with a focus on attaining pure, characterful fruit through organic viticulture and low yields. As you would expect from such an earnest grower, the approach in the cantina is honest to say the least and the resulting wines are amongst Italy's very best.
