Another year means another exciting new cuvée from Jérôme. This year his white cuvée is named Grind and is made with 100% Chenin Blanc from young vines planted on schist. 2023 was a cooler growing season in the Loire, the resulting wines are bright and direct with that signature tight coil of acidity that we love in Loire Chenin.
On the nose the wine has all those chalky, mineral, savoury notes sat beside ripe green apples for days. On the palate, the taught acidity is tightly wound around a rich, opulent texture giving the perfect balance between freshness and richness. Daring, unconventional and most certainly under-the-radar Loire experimentalism.
No surprises here – we have very little to go around.
Jérôme began making wine in 2007 on hills around the Layon river which runs into the Loire a few kilometers from the domaine. After learning to make wine on a fairly commercial level Jérôme, under the influence of Babass and Pat Desplats from Domaine des Griottes, decided to make wine in the most natural way he could – he works his Chenin, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet vines without using chemicals and makes wine without adding a single thing.
