The latest from Noëlla Morantin (Touraine, Loire)

Arriving just in time for the upcoming festive period, we have landed a selection of new vintages care of Noëlla Morantin in Touraine.

Following a succession of unforgiving vintages in the region (blights of frost, hail and mildew) leading to a shortage of wine, she has released a little of her barrel-aged Sauvignon a year earlier than normal, along with some brand new and returning cuvées to bolster the selection. Lovers of her superlative old-vine 'LBL' will be happy to know that the 2022 vintage has also arrived in bottles big and small.

Noëlla Morantin makes an uncommon type of Touraine Sauvignon that in many cases is hard to identify as such - certainly in the eyes of the appellation board who denied her the classification. Working freely under Vin de France she harvests in late September and ages the wine in old 400-litre oak barrels for up to two years. The results show textural depth and elegance, very much her signature style.

Alongside the Sauvignon are Gamay and Côt for the reds and pinks, plus a fabulous sparkling Chenin made using grapes purchased from our other producer in the region, Mikaël Bouges. Her vines are in Thésée, sitting over a more clay-dominant limestone mix a little further away from the river Cher. She's slowly built up her 6-hectare domaine over the years after a history that saw her work in the vines at both Domaine Mosse and Le Bois Lucas, before making wine of her own in the iconic Clos Roche Blanche.
