The latest from Le Mazel

Making the most of what was a fantastic vintage at Domaine du Mazel, southern Ardèche, we have been able to make another shipment of 2023 wine from Gerald & Jocelyne, all of which are available now.

From re-stocks of Mias and Larmande that are now really hitting their stride, to new listings in the shape of returning Briand and debut cuvée ‘Paulou’ that has the welcome accolade of being featured as one of Not Drinking Poison's choice wines of last year. There are plenty of magnums again, and we managed to get hold of just a few more cases of cellared Syrah from the 2011 vintage - a great chance to experience their uncanny ageing potential that we often opine on to anyone who will listen.

It’s been noted that 2022, and to a larger extend 2023, marks a turning point at the domaine. The rising climate led to slightly earlier harvesting, which unexpectedly led to fermentations that, often still ambling along 2 years down the line, completed swiftly, cleanly and yielding wines that were drinking incredibly well right out of the gate. The Oustrics called this turn of events ‘a gift’ after various struggles in the years that preceded. Tasting samples of the 2024 wines with Gerald a couple of weeks ago, we’re pleased to say it appears this trend looks set to continue.

Prolific and influential in the area for well over 20 years, you can read a more detailed profile here if you would like to get better acquainted. Find the wines there to read more and to order, and on the shelves of our Leeds shop too.
