Coquette is back! This time Jean-Pierre has added Pinot Noir into the mix with the usual macerated Gewurtztraminer and Riesling. This category defying wines lies somewhere in-between an orange and rosé. Pouring a translucent neon pink/ ruby in the glass, Coquette is a bouncing ball of fun filled with energy and charm. Brimming with cherry, wild strawberry, violet, pithy citrus, a nice twist of spice and a livewire acidity throughout - a truly joyful wine of immediate satisfaction which never lasts long once the bottle is opened.
Made with a an equal blend of hand-harvested Pinot Noir, Gewurtztraminer and Riesling, macerated separately for 10-14 days (whole bunch infusion). After assembling in equal parts, the wine is aged on the lees in vat for 8 months before bottling. One for the ice bucket, best enjoyed in the sun.
The Rietsch estate has been in the family for seven generations and the land was previously used for tobacco and crops. It was Jean-Pierre's parents who started cultivating vines in 1970s, and handed on to Jean-Pierre in 1987. Although Jean-Pierre is now retired, he still contributes to daily runnings and is assisted by Pierre-Etienne Grieshaber. Le Main Verte is another contributing company, and coordinate the manual work in the vineyards yet the domaine is still very much driven by a family-led culture. The vineyard is naturally cultivated, with terroir at the heart of the operation and no use of chemicals.
