A light and lively red which balances purity of fruit with an earthy, spicy, black pepper undertone. Though light in body, this wine delivers intense black fruit flavours with some lovely little tart red fruits sitting in the background. A real, honest and unfussy wine with a wild edge. Ideal when lightly chilled, you’ll find a welcoming little spritz on opening – wine for any day of the week.
Mauricio Gonzalez Carraro is part of the Asociación de Productores de Vino Campesino de Chile, who are committed to low intervention wine making and revitalising the local heritage of the pipeño, a refreshing wine, low in alcohol, made from the grape País, raised in pipas – barrels made from the local wood raulí. It will be no surprise then that this wine is made with 100% País from 200-year-old gnarly bush vines planted on volcanic sand. The grapes are destemmed and fermented using native yeasts before fermenting in the local raulí wood barrels.
The methods here are about as traditional as you can get, the resulting wines are pure, honest, versatile and somewhat rugged. Great value to be found here!
