Skin-contact Pinot Gris from Sophie Evans, her very first vintage from her own vines! Filled with delicate fruit and heady aromatics, all kept in balance with a wonderful salty streak thanks to a vein of chalk that runs beneath the rows of Pinot Gris. Immediately satisfying, but develops beautifully.
Fruit from young vines, between 7-11 years old, the grapes are hand-picked, hand destemmed and foot crushed before macerating on the skins for 13 days with gentle punchdowns. Aged for 12 months in a mix of stainless steel and glass demijohn. No filtering or fining, with just a touch of sulphur added at bottling. Only 405 bottles produced, bottled in re-used glass.
After studying winemaking in Plumpton College, UK, Sophie travelled to Germany to work alongside 2Naturkinder. Whilst there, Sophie made her first two wines in their cellar- using fruit both from the 2Naturkinder vines and like-minded biodynamic growers in the area. Having spent some time learning the ropes, Sophie returned to the UK in the summer of 2022 to farm a hectare of her own vines. Growing wild down a country lane in Kent, Sophie works attentively with teas, ferments, and essential oils for disease control alongside biodynamic treatments. She works with plantings of Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and some hybrid varieties. This is Sophie’s first English vintage – wines which are a testament to her attention to detail, intuition, and sheer love for winemaking. Exciting stuff!
