Serious is perhaps the wrong word, but this is so very much a Rhone Syrah in its blackcurrant fruit, olive and peppercorn character that both leaps from the glass and explodes on the palate. Soft, silken tannins, fragrant aromas of charred capsicum and coffee and a salty bite of tapenade in the finish. A fantastic take on the grape that shows off Val's more finessed side! Find out more.

The darker juice from the Syrah pulling more towards a rosé in appearance, but with a peachy sunset tint from the macerated Viognier, it remains a hard wine to categorise, but also begs the question, what does that matter? Worked in this way the Syrah gives some gummy red fruits to frame the herbal, anise character of the Viognier, which is extracted to leave a wonderfully fine-grained, delicate tannic profile. Our new favourite park wine - it's hard to think of a more immediately satisfying, tasty wine to drink sat on some grass in the sun. Deep, lip-smacking blackcurrant and peppery spice rules from the thicker-skinned grapes, with the Cab Franc contributing some plush sheen and herbal fragrance. Showing a bit more structure than previous vintages, this hits somewhere between the breeziness of Les Vacances and the heft of Les Quilles de Joie. Find out more.

Tom's more rustic, structured Syrah - a nice counter to the airy 'Poolside'. That lighter wine does play its part here, the whole bunches of old vine grapes are submerged in its fermenting juice, providing a balance of what he describes as 'youth and wisdom'. A fabulously floaty infusion-style wine, showing the diminished tannic structure, pure fruit character and openness of aroma that can be achieved with this restrained method. Fragrant with fresh strawberries and dusty anise, the body of the wine is rounded and gravity-defying, the lightly confected red fruits and spices taking on a pillowy, compote-like quality with a dust of herby liquorice. This is resolutely a red wine, despite 50% of the grapes being white, such is the influence of the Syrah. The Chardonnay and Viognier keep things delightfully silky and fluid, but the red grape provides a huge aromatic lift, that somehow seems to carry itself through into the palate, which is dense with dark blackcurrant fruits and juicy, saline black olive.
