About the wine

Gently perfumed col-fondo of Moscato, energy-filled and vibrant with refreshing notes of lime, blossom, white peach and sage all tied together with a moreish chalky minerality. One of our go-to bottles to start off a meal, with palate cleansing texture, pinprick bubbles and minerality in spades, this one is just ready and waiting to wake the tastebuds.

From old vine Moscato planted on clay-limestone soils, after manual harvesting the Moscato begins fermentation in concrete, before being put into bottle with a little grape must kept aside from the harvest. The wine re-ferments in bottle and there is no disgorgement, leaving this fizz with that inviting textured haze. A wine which feels equal parts fun, uplifting and elegant, it’s a wine for any occasion. As always with Ezio, here we have an uplifting wine of real harmony, where fruit, flowers, salt and spice intertwine.

About Ezio Cerruti

Ezio Cerruti has seven hectares of vines surrounding his home in the commune of Castiglione Tinella, about halfway between Asti and the Langhe. Principally, Ezio works with just one grape. His Moscato vines are up to 60 years old and planted on steep slopes about 400 metres above sea level. Unusually for the area, they are worked organically and the long grass and wildflowers between the rows here stand in stark contrast to the more draconian setups nearby. In the cellar Ezio is a perfectionist, an introverted guy who is happiest growing grapes, making wine and doing things the right way. Whether sparkling, dry or sweet, when you open a bottle from Ezio, you'll find a lively wine of rare harmony, where fruit, flowers, salt and spice intertwine.

Ezio Cerruti
Sol 2016

Sweet, passito-style wine made with the old-fashioned, labour-of-love method: Moscato grapes have their shoots cut and are left on the vine to dry out and create very high natural sugar levels before being pressed and fermented. This nectar is an absolute must for fans of Moscato d'Asti. Find out more.
