White Natural Wine Producer|Didier & Jules Grappe | Wayward Wines

Producer – Didier & Jules Grappe

Natural white wine can take on many forms; from bone-dry, pale in colour and decidedly classical, all the way through to wines with a much deeper, golden hue and notable substance. Hazy, vinous, and textured, with a plump succulence that coats the palate. We hope that our wide-ranging selection will throw up some new discoveries and maybe even take you out of your comfort zone to pastures new.

From traditional direct-press to wines that are allowed to mingle on the skins for just a short time, lending deeper, complex tones; whether you live to worship white Burgundy or seek out the most rugged, off-the-radar bottles from remote Italian or Spanish backwaters, you’ll find much to explore here.

Champs Rouges Voile 2022

The intense, Comté-loving, oxidative sous voile style of Chardonnay. Here, over the course of almost two years, the wine aged in old oak barrels with no topping-up to form its flor. Highly savoury, the primary fruit has given way to saline flavours of toasted almond and walnut, honey and woody spices. Find out more.

Tohu Bohu 2023

Barrel notes are balanced, but can be picked up on immediately - that rich butterscotch, coconut sort of character that feels to intensify the fruit. Lemon is oily, or like a dense lemon curd; bruised orchard pears, a marmalade-y pithiness and concentration and a deep-set, struck match reductions that coils off and melds into the electric acids. Seyve Villard 2024

An atypical Jura white made using a direct-press of the Seyve Villard hybrid - a disease-resistant varietal that requires no herbicide or pesticide vineyard treatments. It flourishes over the red and grey marls and fossil-rich Jurassic limestone of the region, producing a wine that lacks none of the tension and edge you'd hope for from its native Chardonnay or Savagnin.
