A wine that starts to move into the more structured, gastronomic realms, Gare du Nord once again uses the infusion technique but with a little more extraction, giving intensity and tannins that edge to the foreground. Blending a majority of Grenache with Cinsault and Syrah, there is more darkness and grip, spicy black fruits with aromas of cinnamon and capsicum. This is resolutely a red wine, despite 50% of the grapes being white, such is the influence of the Syrah. The Chardonnay and Viognier keep things delightfully silky and fluid, but the red grape provides a huge aromatic lift, that somehow seems to carry itself through into the palate, which is dense with dark blackcurrant fruits and juicy, saline black olive.
