Aromatic orange Muskateller (Muscat) that jumps from the glass and screams all things Spring. This wine is multi-layered and perfumed giving herbs, peaches and elderflower which sit beside a touch of spice and a salty, tonic-like minerality. In the words of the Baumbergers ‘Muskateller 2024 is quite frankly a fantastic wine’. We couldn’t put it better ourselves.
Made with grapes from two parcels, an older one on red sandstone, and a three year old parcel on the plateau which gets less sun – 2024 sees the first yield from this very new plot. The fruit undergoes a 10-day carbonic maceration, before it is footstomped and moved to barrels to ferment and age. The combination of the two parcels lends the wine its wonderfully balanced structure- the younger plot contributing acidity in spades, whilst the older plot gives a morish sun-kissed richness.
Another brilliant slice of contemporary Germany, where 'landwein' is not a dirty word.
