About the Wine

In the prized vineyards of the Barolo DOCG it is rare to find producers that are making wine without the addition of at least a small amount of suphur when those grapes make it to the cellar, but Principiano Ferdinando have eschewed it since the early 2000s. The vines, in Serralunga d'Alba, amongst the rolling hills of Langhe, are all farmed biodynamically. As a result, we find the wines to have a bit more energy, and to have a juicier, more approachable character than the pervading style. Serralunga is the entry-point, coming from the youngest vines on the estate. As per the rules of Barolo, the wine ages in barrel for two years, and close to a year in the bottle before release, to stoften the often dialled-up tannic structure of the Nebbiolo. It's one of the best known wines to come out of Italy and we feel that this is a suitably 'Wayward' example.
