We're very fortunate to offer a small quantity of wine from Beaujolais luminary Yvon Métras. Alongside Thevenet, Lapierre, Foillard and Breton, he was a proponent of the revolutionary theory of Jules Chauvet and Jacques Neauport, otherwise known as the genesis moment for natural wine. Decades later he still works the same way, and another thing that hasn't changed is the amount of land he farms - still just less than six hectares, meaning demand for these wines outstrips supply year on year. The vines have always been worked by hand, without chemical treatment, and Métras has not dosed the wines with sulphur since the mid-90s. The wines are characteristically pure, elegant, perfumed and with a fine clarity that truly speaks of the region.
Large format Métras here posing some incredible value! The fruit for this cuvée is sourced from a grower with a similar philosophy but from outside the domaine. Subject to the Métras touch nonetheless, this is excellent, lithe Gamay and pound-for-pound offering the most bang for buck of these current 2020 releases.
