Sassi Rosato is 100% Montepulciano made in the Cerasuolo style - think the opposite to a barely-blush Provence style rosé; this is a pink wine with a longer maceration to extract deeper colour and structure, giving you more to get your teeth into. Lots of bright red cherry fruit. Super-easy and super-versatile.
The name translates as 'stones' in Italian, and Gran Sasso is the highest mountain in Abruzzo. So here we have it; Sassi.
Sassi is a great new label for some seriously good value wine from Abruzzo, Italy, made by bringing together the grapes from seven different producers dotted around the region, all of whom are working organically and biodynamically in their vineyards, who wanted to stop blending their produce into generic co-operative wines made with conventionally-grown grapes. The idea was to create simple, honest vino da tavola at the best possible price, making something that can be put on the table every day, all the while following the same practices as an other wine we'd list, with no chemical herbicides or pesticides in the vineyard - voila!
