A bit of a treat from the cellar here - it's our pleasure to be able to list some Chinon by the venerable Catherine & Pierre Breton from way back in 2002, one of the oldest vintages of any wine we have on the site at the moment.
So much to unpack here; the wine is in more than good shape. First is the noticible tawny hue as the wine goes into the glass - next, the immediate spice aromas of cedar and leather, letting us know we're dealing with something that has had plenty of time. Given a moment to open up, some very pretty, almost mulchy notes of strawberry start to hang in the balance, and the acid is still keen, the wine still has something of the 'crunch' you associate with Cabernet Franc, but overall the wine has incredible elegance. Some beautifully savoury notes have developed, and a bitterness alongside the fragrant capsicum, which has now evolved to be redolent of charred and cruzzled green pepper on a barbeque. Drinking beautifully now, and with plenty left in the tank. Mighty impressive.
