Here we have a bright, unashamedly spritzy tinto, made with 100% Tempranillo grown in the mountainous Alpujarras of Spain's south. The wine is made in only neutral vessels to preserve the quality of the fruit and has a very short maceration, giving light structure. Served with a light chill, this is fantastic wine to bring easy-drinking refreshment to warm evenings.
La Traviesa is a co-operative set up by the Valenzuela family of Barranco Oscuro, intended to improve the quality of those type of simple, honest type of table wines and to focus on only the use of local grape varietals. Of course the other prerequisite is that the grapes are grown without the use of chemical herbicides and pesticides. Vinifications are straightforward, resulting in youthful, zippy wines that aim to show a pure, unadulterated take on the grape and a broad snapshot of the region.
