Skin-contact Riesling from the gentle giant of Rosheim, equally known for his amiable nature as he is for his method of fermenting his wine in skips. Don’t let that fool you into thinking his wines are anything other than beautifully constructed, harmonious, balanced, and an absolute pleasure to drink.
The maceration technique really brings out the lime citrus and kerosine aromas that most Riesling-heads seek out with glee, and here they are really dialled up. On the palate there are richer, honeyed notes and a bit of edge given from some balanced volitility in the acids. Two weeks on the skins with a very soft extraction followed by maturation in big old foudre for one year. A wonderful way with this grape. The heat of 2019 has given some real concentration.
