Presa Romana 1905 is a rich, concentrated and exotically spiced Macabeo from vines that are over 100 years old. The wine is fermented on its skins in clay amphora which lends a deep golden colour to the wine and gives a granular, tannic texture on the palate. It is broadened further by a maturation of 8 months in old French oak barrels. The wine is packed with salty preserved lemon and lime-y citrus as well as an undertone of of stony, smoky minerality and a balanced bitterness in the finish. On opening the wine displays some notes of volatility, but it feels balanced rather than overpowering, and for those who enjoy this edgy sort of expression there is plenty to enjoy here.

Initially reductive on the nose but gives way to rich, ripe canteloupe and honey in aroma and taste. Great as an aparetif but at 13% needs at least some flatbread to go with, becomes friendlier as it warms up so don't serve under 12 degrees c.
