One of the more musky, exotic orange wines we list, this is a non-vintage, extended 8-month maceration of Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris; the latter grape's skins lending the wine its destinctive blush colour, and hence its name (even though this is technically an orange wine, not a rosé...). The aromas that spring from the glass have something of the botanical garden about them - heady lily, spring blossoms, rose petals... the fruit is also appropriately tropical; grapefruit, lychee, quince. Like many wines with such a perfumed profile, there is a balancing bitterness on the finish. It's thrilling stuff with so much intrigue, and a world away from what many consider to be a 'typical wine' - almost otherworldly!

Domaine Christian Binner is one of the big names when it comes to natural wine in the Alsace. Certified organic since the early 2000s (although the land was not treated with chemicals prior to this - the Binner family has owned vines in Alsace since 1770) and employing a host of additional, complimentary, Biodynamic treatments which has led to their recent Demeter certification too. All work is manual and the land ploughed by horse. Binner believes that Alsace is the logical heart of France for skin-contact wines. The aromatic grapes such as Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Muscat lend themselves to this and the bitterness gives structure and definition to the wines.
